Course Overview
The Equality Act 2010 (EA) influences many aspects of counselling practice, yet many practitioners receive only a brief introduction to equality legislation during their initial training.
This course is delivered by a husband-and-wife team who combine complementary expertise in equality legislation and counselling practice.
Steve Porch not only contributed to the development of Equality Act 2006 and Equality Act 2010, for over a decade he was also the Government official with day-to day policy responsibility for matters related to related to Race and Religion Or Belief, as well as working on various other aspects of legislation such as Same-Sex Couples law. He was also the Government lead in managing the Equality Advisory & Support Service (EASS). He therefore brings invaluable insight into why the legislation was created, how it was intended to operate and how it should be interpreted in practice.
Kelly Porch is an experienced psychotherapeutic counsellor, clinical supervisor and counselling educator. She works in private practice but is also the Director of an accredited counselling training centre with nearly ten years' experience delivering professional counselling qualifications.
This interactive CPD course has been designed specifically for counsellors, clinical supervisors, counselling educators, training providers and counselling managers who want greater confidence in applying equality principles within everyday professional practice.
Rather than focusing on legal technicalities, the course explores how equality legislation, professional ethics and reflective practice work together to support thoughtful, inclusive and professionally defensible decision-making.
Using realistic counselling scenarios, discussion and practical activities, participants will leave with increased confidence in recognising equality issues, making reasonable decisions and knowing when further guidance may be required.
